OK, So I did some research and asked around; Contacted some turbo rebuilders. The K27 used in our E23 745i, was a little short of a real or standard K27. The ones in our E23 BMWs have a K26 compressor wheel. So the thing to do is to install the proper K27 compressor wheel and have the compressor housing machined to accept the bigger wheel. Which looks like What Miha did. What I did was take 2 K27 units I have, both from E23 745i, to a few rebuilders. They all said the same thing that it was in fact a K26 wheel. One guy said if the turbine wheel gets clipped 10-15 degrees, it will spool faster.

I might go for it, but I want feedback from the rest of you guys.

afshin, look at the "tremec" range of gearboxes. the big TKO version can handle almost everything thrown at it, and may be cheaper than a hewland transaxle!( unless you know someone) to look at some details, www.tremec.mrt-direct.com and www.malwoodauto.com.au , click on the logo to have a look.

My 5-Speed Getrag 265 works fine & I'm at about 400 HP ... but I think this is really the maximum it takes ... [2]

Before I get a larger new stainless-steel exhaust line & other components (like a mega squirt, bigger injectors, ...etc) to try to target the 500+ level, I'm forsure going to look for a "Hewland" or what ever ... [20]

I didn't think about it yet.
Maybe I will replace the stock gearboxes.(Used ones for about 150 dollars.)Maybe it will be Getrag(6 gear). Maybe it wil be handmade.

I don't have 500+ hp yet. Let's hope for the better. :)

Impressive Miha [10] May I ask what kind of tranny (gearbox) would you use to handle around 500+ HP ?

Miha, what motor do you have M106?

It's shame to me, but I'm don't know correctly. The 745 was born 1986, 3.5 with motronic. I think, it't m106. Am I right? :)

Will you use motronic or standalone like megasquirt?

Which injectors?

In perspective from Nissan or Toyota. Something like that.

What is your horspower goal?

This summer I think for about 400-450 hp + NOS.
Next summer - more, than 700 hp. If I would have enough money for my purpose. :)

Interesting project!

Thanks.

ok, explain..... I see a bigger wheel, what does that mean? more boost, more lag?

More boost, we hope.
Somebody said: "If you don't have lag, you doesn't have turbo".

quote:
I want a turbo that spools up like crazy and is capable of 1 bar, maybe a little more. Ball Bearings would be nice, also want something that is watercooled. the flange on the factory turbo looks to be like something between a t3 and a t4, maybe we could bolt on a modern turbo.

I wanted a water cooled turbo before, but we may have a problem with motor temp. The resourse of the tuned turbo not more than about 20 or 30000 km.
It's a hybrid of k27 & k29.

P.S. If you're interesting here some photos:
