I recently obtained a low milage M30B35 from a 1989 735iA. It was pulled and has been sitting in someone's garage for many years. The engine is like new. The cam looks like it was never used.
These motors supposedly had the larger valves and were rated at 208hp, as opposed to the earlier cars' 180hp.
My plan is to turbo charge it and put it in an e28. I'm going to use a smaller turbo and limit my boost to about 1 bar.
The block does not have the boss for the oil return line, so I have that to deal with.
The other idea is to find an M106 block and put this head on it.
Any ideas?

| Hi scottie, hows it going? If you are going to use this engine for turbo, you should look into what the cam profile on the cam in this head is. because of the high output of power that this engine is making, Im guessing that it has more overlap designed into the cam profile. the stock m106 cam as u know was designed for a turbo with no overlap. If you were to use this new head you have, then I would sugest using the cam from a M106 or get the specs for the stock M106 cam and get one ground to suit your needs. If I were you I would also use the block from this new engine that you have, I would just drill out a hole and press in a fitting. what engine management are you goning to use? Im geussing stock E28 535i Motronic. That is better than the 745i motronic, as you know its a pain to tune that motronic but the E28 535i motronic is so much easyer. But these are some thoughts, let me know if you want any of my sytems for this project. |

I have a spare factory turbo exhaust manifold. The intake is going to be something a little bit customized. I am hoping to experiment with a driver's side intake system, so I can run an extremely large air/water/nitrous intercooling system inside a custom air dam and keep 3" piping to a minimum.
In so far as electronics, I haven't though of that yet. I am not one to live on the bleeding edge so I may wait and see what other have done with the Megasquirt system. By the time I get to that point in the project, I bet others will have figured out something.
The rest of car is still being planned, but I can tell you that I am looking for the following hard-to-find stuff:
BMW 524td in white or silver running or not 16x10 and 16x14 BBS mesh wheels
Let me know if you have any of these things for sale, or know of any... |

Hi Scottie, Why not going the standalone ECU route for such a project? I am currently searching on the VEMS site for my 518i turbo project. This standalone system provides wideband controller onboard and full ignition and fuelmap tuning. It has several features such as LCD screen and knock control and...... There is a guy with a 535i biturbo with this VEMS system.Check it out. Tim
