Newly added to the stable this weekend. This 1967 BMW 1602 was kept in a garage for nearly 20 years.

To make matters worse, I also picked up his younger cousin, a 1973 2002. The 73 is the donor. The 2002 came with a Weber 2 32/36, MSD Electronic ignition, 5 speed conversion, momo steering wheel, 14 bottlecaps (for track tires!).

The 2002 will also donate it's front struts, control arms, sway bars, custom transmission mounting kit, custom driveshaft, and entire rear subframe with suspention and brakes.

To run the new four piston style brakes, I'll also move the booster/master cyl unit from the 2002 and the pedal box into the 1602.

The 1602 is a 1.6l motor. With the single hole solex, they produced 80hp. I hope to do a little better with the weber. Future plans include building a 1990cc engine and dual side draft carbs, but for now the little 1.6 l is a lot of fun. With only 70k, it still runs great.

As I found her (Love at first sight):

On the way home (The strut bushings were about to bust through the hood.)

Mounting up the weber:

A few shots of the little girl:

The donor car:

The original (and perfectly functioning) single barrel solex:

Swapped in some correct all-aluminum grills:

Stay tuned for more!!

Progress on the 1602----

A birthday gift from Bruce to Don, this H&B valve cover just needed a place to be displayed properly...like on my engine!!

Beautiful paint job, Bruce! I hope it's heat-proof!
