I was reading some earlier posts and it talks about some people doing a 745 engine swap into an E30. Does anyone know what this entails in body modification and also radiator modification. If anyone knows of any sites dedicated to this please let me know.

Thanks
Madison

Ask Afshin, He knows of a few. I also know that there is a guy in England Name Phillip with one. I understand it's suppose to be the worlds fastest E30.

With a swap you will be changing number six spark plug through the glove box.

Yes !!! It is possible BTW, there's no need to dig in the glove box, if the job is correctly done ... .

If I hadn't built my 545, I would go for M106 in e30 or my favourite e21 now, these cars are much lighter than e28. E30.de is really a great site, all you need to know about e30 (of course if you know German, which I luckily know a little). What could be different from M30 swap is turbo manifold, wastgate and all what's associated with that. Already in E28 there is not enough room to swap without changes, I think it will be even more problematic in e30, even less space. Also intercooler placement, piping, etc. But my friend has bought e21 and I have spare M106 which is going into this e21, we'll see, how it goes!

afshin, thanks for that web address. very interesting to read. i like the way he describes the motor "gliding into the smaller engine bay, wondering why BMW didnt fit this motor earlier". i also changed the rocker cover to one from a later model and painted it in crinkle black paint, which meant having to warm the cover first to enable the paint to flash off and go "crinkly". i then took a file to the raised ribs and the bmw roundel, so they stand out against the black paint. as a way of smartening up the engine bay, it cant be beat! madison, check out the site, get it translated(if necessary), and start spannering! it will make for even "more driving pleasure" if you shoehorn the 745 turbo motor in there.

Janis I have an E21 323i where I am going to put the 325i 170ps from E30 in, must be an easy swap. The m106 swap in E21 will not be easy and you will have way too much weight on the front, the rear will be trying to pass the front all of the time BUT you will have a rocket for drag racing.

Yes, the M30 is around 150Kg heavier than M20 engine, so the drivers position should be moved at least to back seat! But the power to weight ratio!!!

By the way BMW did make e30 with M30 engine. South Afrika got e30 333, which had M30 3.2 engine in it! Options on these cars where either power steering of air con., not both! Why SA had these strange BMW models like 745 with M engine, this 333?

You guys are all damn lucky .... !!! All these transplants are FORBIDEN in Switzerland No way to get trough our MFK (every other year). I'm already in "grey" zone with my 5-Speed conversion . If they only knew that 745i's never been produced as 5-Speed, I have to eigther put the 3HP22 back on or crush the car .... .
