About Holset: No offence, but I think there is very long way to go from this mockup to actual working setup. And let me doubt the efficiency, this is twin scroll turbo on regular manifold...
Is this same Precision turbocharger that was sold by Miller Performance? Which changes it requires to the setup?
Thanks, Alex
Yes, that is a direct fit one from Dave on here. Buy direct and save fees. It is a no nonsense upgrade, what the K27 should have been on these cars from the factory. Great for if you are not going balls out and just want a great upgrade for minimal effort. I will be ordering one for my '85 once it gets back on the road.
Yes, that is the turbo I have from Miller. I think I purchased one of the last ones if not the last. Bolts up to standard turbo manifold, needs to modify stock downpipe to fit as the standard is a four bolt and the Precision based is a V band.
I am just going to make a 3" downpipe and have the wastegate dump into it down stream.
The specs for the Precision based I posted here a while back, if you cannot find them let me know. It has a 3" inlet and 3" outlet so the entire unit is better and will have better top end pull. |

who said anything about a twin scroll? this is not the typical HX series Holset turbo, This is a VGT, Variable Geometry Turbine. The Best Part about the holset 351VE is the turbine inlet Flange, Its the closest thing to a factory 745i Flange. Here is a pic of it:
Actually once its mocked up, it's just about ready to run, the only other things that you could do is port the manifold to flow more since the Holset VGT has a much bigger inlet. The person who owns the pic is currently using the factory wastegate as he tries to figure out the electronics to control the vanes, however, there is a very simple solution, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnHGbN67PIM Watch what happens at 0:33 - 1:00 , and at 2:00 - 2:45 |

Yup, it will not make 900hp but it is what the K27 should have been. |

| Just curious, I already have the team745 boost controller and chip. Is the can tune good enough or should I put it on a dyno? Also, what software would I use to tune it? |

Should be fine with the rising rate FPR. It will still run rich up top, just how it is unless you go with Mega Squirt or something.
Supposedly Miller Performance made a WAR-chip that allows you to tune the 013 Motronic, I ordered mine last year and have yet to see it. So at this point, I have no idea what is going on with that. I do need to get my money back for that.
I think David @ E-car toys is dicking with MS using the 179 Motronic harness/system with the B35 crank trigger and No 1 plug sensor. It is what I am doing with my Ljet. Simple and easy. Just use the separate TCU brain from a late E23/24 with the electronic HP22 to control your transmission... unless using a manual trans, then no worries.
MS has a knock box that interfaces with their system. Check it out. |
