Bleed valve
M545iI have a 745i engine in my E28 track car, it is the 3.4 motor with the "old" intake and ECU and L-jetronic. The cam is modified to support the old ignition system. I have now installed a bleed valve (3 way) onto the pressure tube from turbo to wastegate since I only reached 0,3bar boost. I suppose that this is because I have the "newer" turbo + wastegate. Now my question is: is this a good solution or should I modify the wastegate or go with a turbo valve (spring+ball) to have a better result? I am now running at 0,6bar pressure and the car feels strong but anything that would spool up faster the turbo gets my attention. ps I don't have the money for major modifications! Thanks much, M545i
JensYou should be pulling more, I would check all hoses and or leakage from the system first. Sincerely Jens Sincerely Jens
scottieThe turbo should kick you in the butt when boost exceeds 6 lbs. Do you have a mixture meter hooked up? By the way, I want to modify my e28 with a turbo motor. Did you have to make any special motor mounts? What kind of exhaust are you running? Scottie Sharpe Sysop 84 745i 85 535i
M545iOk, I've put it little wrong here, the car pulls really very strong!!! I have the feeling that if I would go to 0.9 or 1bar something will break or must break (maybe the 5 speed or the diff or the cardans)during acceleration. On the track I have so far had problems with outcornering I cannot use the power, the weels keep on spinning even in 4th (I've now put the 3.07LSD in, should be betterthe 3.45 open). There was a new Porsche non-turbo I guess, I was helding him up before the turns so I let him pass but then....on the straight I kept just next to him, was he surprised!!!! The thing is, is a bleedvalve the best way to go for my engine or do I need a turbo pressure valve that opens to the wastegate when reached like 0.6 or whatever pressure? Scottie, I needed to make the exhaust side motor mount and reroute the exhaust downpipes + intercooler tubing. Other things are straight forward, besides wiring. My exhaust is from both turbo and wastegate downpipes to the X then two straight 2.2inch pipes to the rear where I put half of the 745i end muffler (because free flow) to keep the sound not too loud (we have limit max. 95dB on track).
