| Looking for unmetered air |
| tritterbrew | Hi guys, this is first post on new board - I like it! I want to look for any unmetered air before I start tweaking my mixture. I read in the Bosch book to use an unlit propane torch and if you hit a leak you'll see a jump in RPM. It makes sense but it also sounds kind of crazy. What do you think?
Thanks,
Ted

Here is how I do it I would buy a can from
Bavauto this is none explosive and safe,
10 years ago I did it the way you said,
a spark flew from somewhere and there
whent the fuel injection hoses on fire,
trust me Ted with this issue, it is not a game...
Bin there done that LOL

| tritterbrew | Jens,
I contacted BavAuto and they don't have such a thing. They replied and suggested using a non-flamable spray like brake cleaner. That seems pretty crazy. Any other thoughts?

| Jens | Sorry it may have bin "BMPD.com"

Vacuum leaks are the main cause of rough idle and poor performance. Finding those leaks can be a real challenge. LM-leak finder contains a special blend of hydrocarbons for fast, simple leak detection. Spray leak finder on suspected intake component, and engine R.P.M. will drop. Much safer than the use of highly flammable starting fluid, and it is catalytic converter safe.

| tritterbrew | Hey there, I tried to order from BMP and they called and said that they don't carry it anymore. Any ideas on where else to find LM products? I tried a quick search on the Internet and wasn't very successful.
Thanks,

| tritterbrew | If the idea is to introduce a gas that affects idle, it seems that you can either go with something that increases idle, or decreases idle. The Bosch book I have recommends going at it with an unlit propane torch. Thanks to Jens' advice I still have my eyebrows and 10 fingers. What about something that doesn't combust like Nitrogen or CO2? My thinking is that it might decrease the percent of 02 in the mixture and thus increase the idle - is my logic off?
The guy at the performance parts store recommended spraying WD40 around every possible leak spot and seeing if the idle went up. This didn't sound like a good idea, but I thought I'd run it by you guys.
I'm determined to find something that is safe and effective since it seems that chasing down leaks is a major part of the adventure of keeping these old cars running correctly.

| scottie | The WD-40 used to work when WD-40 had a combustible propellant. it doesn't anymore to the best of my knowledge. Ether should work, too according to this theory.

| jimgoeg | I've had good results finding air leaks by shoving a sock in the tailpipe, lightly pressurising the system with 5 psi or so, and then spraying a soapy solution around all suspect spots. Leaks will bubble up.
