| Dots in my paint | |
| scottie | I have little dots in my paint. Especially on my hood. I tried to rub it out with rubbing compound, but these dots are "on there". I managed to rub out a few of them with a clay bar, but it took some serious elbow grease. I could never do the whole car. Is there a chemical that will remove them? | Adam | Hey Scottie, Are you sure they're not moisture bubbles that were originally trapped in the original paint job finally finding their way through the oxidation ?. Mine has them that's why this original paint job is going to be removed, to the metal, and polyeurethane is going to be added to the new paint. Same color of course. I found living down in Huntington Beach, So. Cal. (with the sun and salt air), that my show cars lived much shinier lives with the polyeurethane additive, and the humidity was way down when they were painted. Here in Vegas, the original BMW paint job is deteriorating at an exponential rate :(. Also sometimes painters don't allow the paint to cure fully before they spray the clear coat on, and this happens also. Usually I would have the base coat color sanded, before the clear was sprayed on. Or is this like road residue from something ?. Just thoughts, Adam |
| scottie | It is bumpy. Very very small bumps. I can scrape them off with an exacto knife if I am very careful. But this would scratch the paint. Scottie Sharpe Sysop 84 745i 85 535i |
| kd7olf | Could be bug droppings (seriously). Try using a bug and tar remover (you'll want to re-wax afterwards, it strips most everything). I've seen it where you get a bunch of the little flying guys on the car and the next thing you know you have the "bumps" from them. They adhere REALLY well... Gerald '80 733i Gerald '80 733i |
