| Victor -- BG 44 fuel cleaner |
| scottie | I asked my dad about that stuff. He said that the BG is actually the company's name and that they make several styles of fuel cleaning kits, some of which are designed to run through the fuel system...the best ones require you remove the injectors for cleaning and adjusting. He did not say if the stuff worked, but kind of shrugged like dad's do when you suggest spending money on something they think isn't worth it. He suggested using Techron. That's what they use on their porsches and ferraris. At a Bosch place I used to work at in college, When a client comes in and says their 740 isn't running right, we would load it with good gas and a bottle of techron, then "take it to lunch". this means that all of the mechanics would pile in and we'd drive the car to the local deli but takes teh long way through the industrial park and repeatedly full-thottles the car to red line and red-hots the brakes many times back and forth. This usually fixes the poor running (and also cures squeaky brakes!).

| 345is | is any one there
|
| RDAvena | I think there is but they did not leave a message. |
| scottie | Where is "there" ? [:)] |
| 345is | I am new on this site. Ive been building a m30 with a m106 engine and it is all done, I just have to paint the car now. I just have a question for any one who will give an answer. Ive got the five speed on the m106 and Im just wondering if I should have a blow off valve on the charging air pipe, just before the throtle plate? I have sort of read on this site about needing that valve for a 5 speed? so if someone has some input that would be great! |
| Fellis | Dan, this is off topic but you do need by pass valve on 5speed. I have blow off from GFB on my 5 speed and it just not working very well as blow off doesn't return metered air to intake and when throtle is closed during aggresive gearshift, a lot of fuel is dumped into exaust and in just blows like hell!:) As I'm going for MAP sensor in MegaSquirt, it won't be problem for me in future, but if you have AFM or MAF, go with simple Bosch by pass valve. |
| 345is | what car would this simple bosch by pass valve come on, in other words when I go to order this do I order it from a certain bmw car model or is it just a generic part? |
| Fellis | it's e bosch by pass valve used on Audi, VW, Porsche and other turbo cars. I don't remember part number, but you could go to Audi parts dealer and ask for by pass valve from TT (or any audi with 1,8 turbo engine). |
| RDAvena | Or you can use the early M102 blow off valve/piping set up on your M106 like I have done with mine. The spring is good for 14.5 lbs and as of now with stock boost I have not had issues with the blow off valve. It diverts the charged air back to the turbo to keep it spooled between shifts. The M106 is mated to the getrag 260/6 that came with the 88 e28. |
| srfsteve | So doesn't this mean that until you get that blow off installed and working you will be obliged to make all shifts full power shifts to avoid closing the throttle?! |
| ra0507 | I am not sure I follow this posting, but, Scottie, the BG 44 is very corrosive and you do not want to get it on your paint. It does a good job of cleaning the injectors, but all of that carbon is released into the oil in some fashion and an oil change is necesary. The Techron is actually very very good, but I think the best is Redline SI-1 which is often repackaged as a BMW product and is offered by some BMW dealers. You can pour it into the gas and in a couple of minutes, you are going to find the car idles much smoother. It's not very expensive, usually $6.99 per bottle. The other highly touted product is "RxP" which some say is great to use before you get the car inspected. It is in a small red bottle (also $6.99) and is poured into the fuel tank.

| turbo535im | What about the Ford stuff thats used in canister mixed with gas. We don't put this in the tank itsmuch too strong for that. It requires special equipment. |
| qwikxr | Ok.. Heres some info for ya. I used to be a distributor for JB products (not the J-BWeld people).. http://www.justicebrothers.com
They have a fuel injection cleaner that is, by far, superior to anything Ive seen. This actually goes for all their products.
I used to test brands against each other for Customer Demos.. The BG 44 was totally amazing at how dirty it actually burned.
Ex.: Take three saucers.. put about 1/2 cup of gasoline in each. #1 will be plain gasoline, #2 will be gas + about 2oz. of BG44, #3 will be gas + JB F.I. injector cleaner.. from a scale of 1-5 (5 being worse) for carbon-sooted burnoff and residue, plain gas will be a 4, gas + BG will be a solid 5, and JB will be about a 2. It actually burns a surprisingly better abount cleaner.
Try it for yourself.
JB products will not be found in chain parts stores (Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc), but more at dealerships, small repair shops and places like NAPA (NAPAs are independantly owned franchises)..
