HVAC temp/cabin sensor
alan733I have an '83 733i that I'm trying to recondition. I've pulled the fan motor to replace it and noticed that the sensor with the long (about 6") probe was just coiled under the fan motor. My question to the board is which hole does it go into- the smaller one or the larger one on the firewall side? I've tried both but can only get about a third of it in. What if I can't get it all the way? Will it still function with only a third of it in? Thanks for your help!!
AdamI am also curious to this probe. It has a calibration unit over on the passenger side of the fresh air inlet right beside the vacuum chamber. Does anyone know the adjustment of this calibration ?. Adam

AdamThanks Jens, the diagram is awesome, but it's missing the probe. Printed it out and added it to the e23 manual, just the same !! : ) Thank you again, my friend, Adam
alan733Thanks Jens, for the GREAT diagram, It is now part of my growing stack of tech tips and fixes. The only problem is that I still have the same as in my original post.
JensOk there r only 2-temp sensors 3 incl one for the OBC by the front bumper, One is a white box, in front of the blower motor, it guides right down in a little hole by the heater core. The other is a black bullet type, that one just snaps or if broke, tiewrap to the housing. :) Sincerely Jens Sincerely Jens
scottieI think that may be the fresh air temp sender. If the outside air is very cold, the heater will over-heat the cabin by a few degrees. Scottie Sharpe Sysop 84 745i 85 535i
alan733OK...The sensor from the white box in front of the blowere motor that guides down the hole won't go in but about two inches. Is there a special trick to get this in or could the hole be plugged? Will my HVAC still function if this is only pushed in those two inches?
JensTake a needle nose plyer and try to pry it a bit, and yes it still would work Sincerely Jens
alan733Thanks Jens....I'll give it a try
