Toulene sources
cellguruI just checked at all the sizable home centers around here (HomeDepot, Lowes) that got all sorts of thinners and such, but none have toulene. Do paint only stores stock it? Thanx Kevin
Jon 86 745 MSI checked there also. Found Xylene. I am going to try a local Industrial supply place when I get back in town next week. Jon Jacobs 86 745i (Das Rocket) 16 psi+ Boost with Team WWW.745i.com Performance Parts
scottieI talked to Don yesteray or thereabouts and he said he picked up 5 gals of it here in the bay area at a racing shop. Don, where did you buy that Stuff? Scottie Sharpe Sysop 84 745i 85 535i
Joe745iHow safe for our cars do we really know it is? I understand that it is carbon based and all, but there could still be some reprocussions. I just don't want anyone here (including myself) do do any major damage because we haven't researched it fully. Granted, I would love to use some sort of booster like Toulene, but let's be sure it is the way to go. I remember the 76 gas station in town here (it was replaced by shell recently) would carry 100 octain racing fuel (it had checkered flag on the pump). If tuolene was the product that made the gas go from 87 to 89 to 92, like Jon's article said, then it should be great. I am going to check out some MSDS sheets of gasoline from all the major stations. You will see that some of these places (BP) don't use all petro based materials in their fuels and can be harmful over time. But if Shell or Marathon (all petro based) claim to use toulene, then we pretty much know that is where the bulk of the octane rating comes from. Food for thought, Joe
JensI don't know guy's but I get 104 octain at a gasstaion here, (unleaded) I feel confy with it, yet i still mix it. :) Sincerely Jens

cellguruSure enough, found it at the local ACE for $9.49 a gallon, branded Toluol, but appears to be the right stuff.
Joe745iSure enough, Shell lists it on there MSDS under unleaded gasoline. This is going to be great, isn't it. Even with just a little bit of octane boost, I bet this car runs sooooo much better. Look out Vipers, these near vintage seven series sedans are going to rock your world!!!!!! Joe Mangano
dnliiiHello Scottie... Two places here in the Bay Area so far. Gotelli's and Olympian Speciality Fuels. I am adding two gallons of 114 octane to 18 gallons of 91 octane. This adds up to an octane of 93.30. Added cost is 17% more than 91 octane only. How does it run???? perfect !! Have not had a lean knock since. I am figuering that this is cheap insurance on the engine. [new head and block= $5000.00] Don
