This installation was done on a 1986 535. Some of the other BMW’s may have slightly different wiring colors. Check your Bentley (manual, not car). Since I didn’t use the ignition activated lock feature I didn’t need access to the ignition. I decided to install the black box in the trunk. Of the ten wires connecting to the black box I removed the unnecessary five. Those are the gray, purple, blue, orange, and brown. I then used double-sided tape to mount the box behind the cardboard cover on the back side of the back seats. You will also need to mount in such a way that the box’s antenna wire can be mounted either perpendicular or parallel to the ground. If you flip up the spare tire cover and pull the upholstery away from the driver’s side tire well you will see a mess of wires. This is the wiring harness we are about to splice into. There are two loops here and only one has the specific wires we want. Look for a green wire with a! black stripe, a brown wire, and a yellow wire with a black stripe. These are in the loop you want. Now that you’ve picked that out remove a section of the gooey tape that holds all those wires together. Splice the box’s yellow wire to the car’s green/black, the box’s green to the car’s yellow/black, and the box’s black wire and white wire to the car’s brown wire. I should probably mention here that the car has a brown wire and a tan wire in the same loop. You want to be sure you get the brown on. It’s dark in the trunk so double-check. I used quick-splice (or Scotch-Lok) clamps to do my splicing. Soldiering is also and option. Now we have one last wire. The box’s red wire needs a constant 12v power supply. Splice the box’s red wire to the car’s red wire with a white stripe that’s hiding behind the trunk lid hinge on the driver’s side.
I know the instructions that come with the system will tell you that you need to splice the box’s green wire to the car’s green/black wire and the yellow to the yellow/black wire. Well, you can do it that way and it will work but the buttons on the key fobs will be reversed. The lock button will unlock and vice versa. If you take the key fob apart thinking you can just juxtapose the buttons you will see the buttons are a one-piece part that is hinged in the middle.
