| New member - turbo system questions |
| dunawayrw | I am a 3.0 CS owner (and 328is) that is looking to turbocharge my engine. I thought I was reasonably familiar with BMWs but really didn't know about 745i's until a couple of months ago. Obviously, it would save me a lot of headaches to transplant or duplicate a 745i engine or utilize 745i components, rather than try to fabricate a system out of component parts from various vendors.
Are their sources for engines or the 745i turbo system component parts other than BMW? I am trying to keep costs reasonable on the turbo project, because I am also doing some other upgrades.
Any sources or thoughts would be appreciated.

| Afshin-Switzerland | The most resonable way to go, would be to just drop the whole engine/tranny package out of a wrecked car in yours. L-Jet one (up to 1982) is the easiest to fit on your car. The Motronic set up conversion (from 1983 on) is not impossible, but definately costier on time/money.

| scottie | I had a 530 that had a Callaway turbo kit in it. So those kits are floating around out there. The trick would be to find one in good shape at a good price!

| rlh | I've researched this conversion myself. I also own an e9 and wanted to do the same thing. I've looked at 635's and 535's with this conversion. I bought the engine and so on, but there's a big problem: the turbo may hit the frame rail. You'd probably be better of to find a Calloway or Dinan system. Use a 3.5 engine and you can really get some ponies. As far as the Motronic style intake manifolds go, you'll have trouble with the coupe's brake booster. ou'll need to use a tii booster, a later 'brake bomb' system or an L-Jet / D-Jet manifold.
Good luck,
